From my experience watching tons of zombie movies and playing zombie survival games - a sword of some sort is the best. An M-4 assault rifle and an automatic shotgun seem to be the best, in terms of guns. A shotgun is very easy to use, and the assault rifle packs a lot of punch. A sword doesn't need bullets, and assuming that the corpses are softened from decay, it would be easy to chop a zombie's head off. They're not so great when in a zombie horde, though.
