First off, I'm not trying to start arguments, nor am I telling anyone they can't ship ByaRuki. This is just a rant. If you're a ByaRuki fan, it's best that you move along.
To tell you the truth, when I first heard that people shipped Byakuya and Rukia together, I felt sick. Then I went WTF, because this pairing, out of all the Bleach pairings (besides crack ones) makes the least sense to me. What makes even less sense is the argument that "they're not really siblings, so it's okay!"
Uh. No it's not.
I see this excuse used the most and it honestly makes NO SENSE. Just because two people who were RAISED as brother/sister aren't blood siblings doesn't make it okay for them to start shagging each other. If you're made to think this person is a relative, a sibling, despite blood - then they're your sibling. End of story.
I'll use myself as an example: I'm adopted. I have about 8 brothers. No, I'm not blood related to them, but that doesn't mean I'm going to start dating one of them. Imagine being raised to think someone is your brother and then, suddenly, they want to start dating/having sex with you. To you, this person has been a brother (regardless of blood) up until that point, and all of a sudden they're romantically interested in you? That's creepy. And just strange. I would seriously question the sanity of anyone who honestly thinks that's okay, just because they're not blood related.
So I guess it would be okay for an adopted son to want to date his adoptive mother? Think about that. It's no different. Many people would find that wrong, so why not with adopted siblings?
And another thing, Byakuya promised Hisana that he would take care of Rukia as A SISTER. That alone should be enough proof that he loves her as a brother would, even if you disregard EVERYTHING else in the series. And yet people STILL insist it's "okay." When he said he was going to kill Zommari for pointing his blade at [Byakuya's] pride (Rukia) he was saying that Rukia is literally his PRIDE - the one thing he would protect above all other things. That doesn't denote romantic feelings. He's saying that he would protect Rukia at all costs. Which, by now, all Bleach fans should know protecting loved ones - friends, companions, and in this case, siblings - plays a huge role in Bleach. Him saying he'd protect her doesn't automatically mean he wants to pursue a romantic relationship with her. Ichigo doesn't want a romantic relationship with Chad - and Ichigo protects Chad and the other Nakama. Wanting to protect someone =/= romantic feelings.
ANYWAY that's my thoughts on it. I should find better things to rant about in Bleach besides pairings and yaoi, haha.

Date: 2011-09-20 04:00 pm (UTC)ByaRuki is not precisely my OTP (well, it's NOT at all, tbh) but I write some that has it embebbed. Why? You gave very logical and common sense reasons. I can perfectly understand and agree with all of them, and I mean ALL. But (please don't kill me yet) they weren't raised as sibilings and discovered later. they knew from the beginning they weren't related; what's more, rukia didn't even know she was related to him at all 8she didn't knew she was the sister of Byakuya's deceased wife until a lot LOT later). OK, nothing happened between the in 50 years, obviouly is not likely to ever happen by now, not after all that has happened, not after how they started, not after Rukia knowing she's his sister-in-law not just his step-sister. BUT I love parallel universes where, for a chance of destiny something could have been slightly different leading them to a closer relationshipt (not just tight ass byakuya showing he was no more to blreak ANY rules XD). no excuse for me, you know who I ship, and that even RenRuki has more sense plot related than ByaRuki. Still, poor lame excuse to finish this, it's sweet XD
BTW, this last is not intended to be a stab in any way, so just forgive me ifit looks like in any way 'cos that was not my intention and I'm here trying my best for it to be what I mean to: I didn't even thought about shipping byaYoru until I read you. And now it makes a lot more sense than any other Yoruichi / Byakuya pairing. Just saying :D
End of LONG rant ;)

Date: 2011-09-20 04:24 pm (UTC)Even in an AU I can't see ByaRuki happening. I just can't get past the "but they're siblings!" mindset, haha. I think that if Hisana found Rukia when she was still alive would have been interesting, though - maybe she would have lived. I always got the feeling that Hisana didn't have the will to live because she felt so guilty.
And it's no problem! You're welcome to express your opinion on here :)

Date: 2011-09-21 01:46 am (UTC)Rukia was adopted, ergo, she is legally Byakuya's sister! How much more clarification is needed before people make sense out of this? It's about as vulgar as shipping the Hitachiin twins or the Elric brothers. It's just plain wrong.
I love your rants. They make me think, and help me feel better. <3no subject

Date: 2011-09-21 04:55 pm (UTC)Or Byakuya/Yachiru. That's just weird. Even if she's older....just no. If she annoys the piss out of him now, she'll still annoy the piss out of him later.

Date: 2011-09-21 05:02 pm (UTC)I kind of like Byakuya/older!Yachiru, but it's way more fun to read fics where she nags the snot out of him. It's one of the more innocent aspects of the series, since she's a toddler and he's X years older and more mature. So, he's her little girl crush. <3 So cute!
